Willowmavin Primary Artists-in-schools residency

A month-long artistic residency undertaken by Jenny Ellis at a regional Victorian School. She guided the creation of a muppet-style musical with the grade 5/6 class. The children designed and made their own puppets from scratch. They also wrote songs and music, which wove through their stories, full of time travel, evil scientists, and singing rabbits. Grade six student Chelsea Wallmeyer said, “We have never done anything like this before!" Another Grade six student, Drew said "Somehow it has changed people's attitudes in a good way." The children performed to a room packed with proud mum's and dad's, brothers, sisters and other community members. As the local paper said "the Willowmavin Puppet Spectacular was a resounding success." Artists-in-Schools is a Victorian State Government funded initative that provides opportunities for professional artists to work with young people in Victorian primary and secondary schools.
